Ideas for Fundraising: Making Your Dream a Reality

Starting up a project or business isn’t easy. It can take months or even years WITH the right fundraising, and even longer without. You can’t just jump into it. You have to have an image, a game plan, a goal in which you absolutely must meet. It doesn’t matter what venture you are attempting to start, you need to have enough money in order to start up and keep the business going.

Then there’s the issue of actually fundraising. Fundraising doesn’t mean that you have to sit around on a street corner, sweating to death in the heat or freezing in the cold, holding pastries and waiting for someone to stop and buy a box. Most of the time, those types of fundraisers just end in sun- or windburn and very unhappy fundraisers without funds raised. Not to mention fifty boxes of uneaten pastries that are already starting to go stale.

However, there are several ideas for fundraising that you can easily incorporate:

1.Athletic events. Whether it’s a marathon or some other sporting event, you can easily raise funds for your charity or other project. It could be as easy as simply asking each athlete to attempt to get donors, or asking for a donation at the door. Then, everyone who is going to compete competes and everyone is happy.

2.Food fundraisers. Food fundraisers can mean several different things. They could be as effortless as selling tickets for a special meal that is being specially provided by a generous business or selling donuts or candy or some other sweet by the box until they’re all gone. Donuts are the usual choice, but candy generally holds up a wee bit easier than anything else. It may take a while to sell these, but at the end, it’s usually worth it.

3.Ask for donations. Or, you could simply ask for good ole donations. This doesn’t mean that you necessarily won’t get the donations that you are looking for, but you might have some issues since you aren’t really offering anything to the people donating. Granted, there are plenty of kind-hearted people who wouldn’t mind giving up a dollar or two or maybe even a little more. But there are more who won’t give very much without getting something in return.

4.Another interesting option is online fundraising. There are certain websites that, if you post and explain what you are looking for as far as the project goes, they will help you to find the donors and funding needed to complete your project. Keep in mind that this may be one of the quicker means of getting funding, but it also has a few differences from other funding methods. For example, you don’t keep the money if you don’t get enough donated. This isn’t an attempt to be unfair to you—it is returned to the donors. It’s because if you can’t make enough to start your business, it’s likely to fail. Also keep in mind that just because you don’t want the money returned before you start the business, doesn’t mean that you should shortchange yourself. This just leaves you with problems because then you’ll fail because you didn’t ask for enough funding.

These ideas for fundraising are all great ways of getting your project started. All you have to do is try.
