Celebrity Infamy the Quick Road to Fame

Heres a question for youwould Lindsay Lohan be half as interesting if she simply showed up on set, did her work and wasnt in rehab more often than Robert Downey Jr.? Would you know that Robert Blake was the star of the 70s TV series Baretta if he hadnt been accused of shooting his own wife? If Ashton Kutcher hadnt married Demi Moore, would his name be in this article? The answer to these questions (and whether or not Joanie really loved Chachi) is a resounding no.
Infamy comes in many forms, from mild to wild. From the murderous O J Simpson to the intelligence deficient Jessica Simpson, celebrities are known for their successes and even more so for their shortcomings. Not that murdering your ex-wife and her boyfriend is a simple shortcoming.
Speaking of shortcomings, remember when Joan Rivers first brought her offspring, Melissa Rivers, to help greet celebrities at the red carpet for E-Entertainment Network back in 1996. Hi, Ive been around since the Ten Commandmentsno, nonot the Charlton Heston filmI mean the ACTUAL ten commandments - and this is my older looking daughter Melissa! How cruel can one woman be? Not only did she impart her incredibly annoying personality on the poor child, she gave her a complete lack of talent and a heaping helping of ugly to boot.
But thats what makes the Rivers twins interesting. If the kid were well mannered, polite and not an unnatural and completely creepy clone of her mother (circa 1945), the show would have been a dud and they wouldnt have been able to sign with the TV Guide channel for a reported 8 million in 2004. And thats where our society is at its finest. We may not agree on politics, religion or the correct pronunciation of potato, but we all love a good old human train wreck.
Which American Idol judge do we adore? Is it the overly nice and grotesquely bubbly Paula Abdul or the scathing and sarcastic Simon Cowell? Which was more interesting, The Surreal Life, or the real life parting of ways between Nichole Richie and Paris Hilton? What was the most interesting moment of last years Oscars? Was it an award acceptance speech or was it Sean Penns complete lack of a sense of humor?
Fame is interesting, as we all know. Infamy, however, is really interesting especially when celebrities are involved.
